Description
Edward Sachse was a German-born lithographer and painter who emigrated with his family to Baltimore in the late 1840s. He and his brother Theodore founded the lithography firm Sachse and Company there in 1851 and were joined in 1860 by William Sachse. They specialized in accurate depictions of urban landscapes and buildings in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., often as bird’s-eye views. During the Civil War they also produced military and naval views. The firm was active until the 1870s.
