Description
Margaret H. Chrystie was a painter and lithographer based in the Philadelphia area. She painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits in a lyrical post-Impressionist style characterized by a painterly approach to brushwork, and using softly blended colored patches to build form. Chrystie studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) and the Philadelphia School of Occupational Therapy. She exhibited widely in the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s, at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Cincinnati Museum, Butler Art Institute, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Temple University, and in numerous shows at the PAFA. Her paintings are in the collection of the Woodmere Art Museum, Allentown Museum, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
Condition: Generally very good, professionally cleaned and restored.
