Duncan Phyfe style mahogany stand

The terrestrial globe with metal hour rings at each pole, in brass calibrated full meridian, raised on a Duncan Phyfe style mahogany stand with horizon band (without applied calendar as issued) on four curved supports, and having turned baluster and reeded urn central standard on three reeded splayed legs.

Description

Weber Costello was one of the leading American globe manufacturers, importers, and sellers of the 20th century. The gores of this globe were provided by the London cartography firm G.W. Bacon & Co., London. The stand is of unusually high quality, probably produced for the retail home furnishings market rather than as a school globe.
